Ibanez has always had a remarkable ability to push the boundaries of the modern bass, but with the EHB series, the brand has clearly taken things to another level. A genuine revolution in terms of comfort, ergonomics and playability, the EHB1005MSL does not simply follow the traditional conventions of bass design: it intelligently challenges them to offer a particularly modern and intuitive playing experience.
Its first major advantage is immediately obvious: its headless and extremely ergonomic body design. The balance is remarkable, whether playing seated or standing, while access to the upper frets is simply excellent thanks to the instrument's distinctive body and neck design. Despite being a 5-string bass, it quickly gives the impression of being light, compact and effortless to handle. Everything seems to have been designed to eliminate unnecessary constraints and allow the player to focus entirely on playing. That is precisely what makes the EHB series so appealing: after just a few minutes, you start wondering why all basses are not designed this way!
The EHB1005MSL also features a multi-scale neck with a progressive scale length ranging from 33" to 35". On a 5-string bass, this design makes perfect sense: the low B string benefits from the longer scale length, providing greater tension, precision and definition, while the higher strings retain a shorter scale length and therefore a very natural playing feel. The result is particularly convincing in the low end, with a B string that remains clean, tight and perfectly articulate, even when played aggressively. The fanned-fret layout may look surprising at first, but it quickly becomes very natural and contributes to an exceptionally smooth and fluid playing experience.
The electronics are perfectly matched to the quality of the instrument. The two Bartolini BH2 pickups deliver a sound that is precise, deep and highly musical, with plenty of definition in the low frequencies and a beautiful presence in the midrange. Combined with the Ibanez 3-band preamp featuring adjustable midrange frequency, they offer an extremely wide tonal palette, capable of moving from a modern, powerful and highly defined sound to warmer and more organic tones. The EQ bypass switch also allows the bass to operate in a true passive mode, further enhancing the versatility of this EHB.
The Sea Foam Green Matte finish gives the instrument a particularly successful personality. Modern without being excessive, it perfectly matches the spirit of a bass that fully embraces its contemporary character.
And there is another particularly important point for left-handed bass players: finding a left-handed 5-string bass of this level, featuring a headless design, two Bartolini pickups and, above all, a genuine multi-scale construction, is far from common. The range of options available to left-handed players is already much more limited, and this particular combination of features is especially rare. For a left-handed bassist looking for a modern, comfortable and genuinely different instrument, this EHB1005MSL therefore represents a truly exceptional opportunity.
A bass that genuinely deserves to be described as revolutionary: lightweight, incredibly comfortable, perfectly balanced, technically sophisticated and blessed with a real sonic personality. The EHB1005MSL once again demonstrates that Ibanez knows exactly how to imagine the bass of tomorrow without sacrificing the pure pleasure of playing.
