In 1982, Tom Scholz created an intuitive, analog Rockman X100 headphone amp that promised studio-grade direct guitar tone. Today, MXR has unveiled the new Rockman X100—an analog recreation of the original's coveted cleans and crunchy chorus built into a pedalboard-friendly enclosure.
The new Rockman X100 pedal stays true to the original and features four presets—two differently equalized clean modes with high-power sustain and two distinctively gritty dirty modes—selectable via the Mode button.
The CLN2 mode, which is the default, will give players crystal-clear cleans, while switching to CLN1 will make things tighter and punchier with its mid-focused EQ curve. The third "Edge" mode will offer moderate clipping that's highly sensitive to input gain adjustments and cleans up at lower volumes, and the fourth Distortion mode offers overdrive and sustain that's perfect for leads.
