Personal Thoughts:
This is a lovely early Custom Shop ’61 SG Reissue with exactly the sort of vintage character that suits the model. The Faded Cherry finish, cream binding, dark rosewood board and aged nickel hardware give it that unmistakable early-’60s Gibson look, while the slimmer neck profile and lightweight double-cutaway body make it a very easy guitar to get around.
The SG format has always had a more immediate and open feel than a Les Paul, with excellent upper-fret access and a lively response that works brilliantly for classic rock, blues and more aggressive styles. The VOS treatment adds a subtle aged appearance without going into full relic territory, giving the guitar a naturally broken-in look and feel.
At over fifteen years old, this example now has some genuine age and use behind it as well, which suits the whole aesthetic nicely. A very appealing older Custom Shop SG with classic styling, practical playability and plenty of vintage-inspired character.
Condition Report:
Very good condition. There are some minor impressions, light marks and general playwear consistent with careful use and age. The VOS finish and aged hardware form part of the original factory specification, while the additional marks are genuine subsequent wear. Overall, the guitar presents very well for a 2010 instrument.
