The Ludwig 404, a classic Ludwig model that is considered a masterpiece of aluminum snare, is estimated to be from the mid to late 1970s based on its serial number. It boasts a history of nearly 50 years, and the dry sustain produced by the seamless aluminum shell and the mild, midrange-focused tone create a unique presence. The mild, mid-range-focused tone creates a unique presence. The 70's model is a popular generation with thinner hoops and a slightly milder tone than the current model, but still easy to use. The main parts (hoop and snappi) of this model appear to be original, and there are some scratches and stains commensurate with its age, but there are no problems with tuning or inner mute/strainer operation. Snappi and head have been replaced with current ones, but the tone is good! This vintage snare is still in good condition.
