Usually, old unit like 244 would show some deterioration in colour such as knobs turning very yellow but such this unit shows little colour change in knobs.Also, as you can see the condition of the panel is very good.Please refer to photos for the detail condition.【What is calibration?】For those, who does not understand what specifically calibration maintenance means, let me explain you what is it.Vintage unit like TASCAM usually loses its originale operatical capabality due to many aging factors, and resulting in showing wrong numbers in VU meters and low recording level or misaligned phase. And these needs to be adjusted.Calibration is the process of adjusting internal adjustment point to recover the unit's performance.Most of the case, if you do DIY repair and just replaced the belt, you would notice that record level is noticebaly smaller than the level you must have recorded. And I think that is kind of the limit of DIY repair. If you want to reach best performance, It would require you to read very long service manual and understand the proper service procedure, which is of course, quite troublesome and cost a lot of money for buying proper equipment as well.Of course, It would not be ultra precise as much as software DAW but still there is also room to improve performance by adjusting internal settings.
