About this listing
For sale is a rare 2002 Fender Japan / Crafted in Japan Jazzmaster, factory finished in Burgundy Mist Metallic with matching headstock. This is stamped in the neck pocket as JM66-80 BMT, confirming it as a factory Burgundy Mist Metallic JM66 model. There is also a handwritten “12” in the neck pocket, believed to indicate #12 of the commonly cited 120-piece rare colour run. These Burgundy Mist matching-headstock Fender Japan Jazzmasters are often referred to as the JM66-RC Rare Color models and are exceptionally hard to find, especially in the UK.Serial number: Q033640The guitar is in excellent condition for its age, with only very minor cosmetic wear. There is a light surface scratch visible in certain lighting, but overall it presents extremely cleanly. Please see photos for condition. It has recently had a complete refret and full professional setup. Updated photos showing the new frets will be added shortly. It is currently strung with D’Addario XS 10–46. The action is comfortable, bends are clean, and it plays very smoothly. The original Fender Japan pickups have been upgraded to a set of Fender Pure Vintage ’65 Jazzmaster pickups, giving it a more traditional, full and open Jazzmaster voice while retaining the character of the guitar. Original Japan JM66 Jazzmaster pickups can be included if desired. Electronics all work as expected, including both the lead and rhythm circuits. The guitar is fitted with a German-made Schaller GB-0590-010 Roller Tune-o-Matic bridge. This is a high-quality upgrade and is mounted using adaptor posts in the original Jazzmaster bridge thimbles, so the modification is reversible if the next owner ever wanted to return it to a traditional Jazzmaster/Jaguar-style bridge. The Schaller bridge works excellently with the Jazzmaster tremolo: tuning stability is very strong, the trem feels smooth, and there is no buzzing or string-jumping.Currently fitted with Marvel-style strap lock buttons, but the original strap buttons are included in the case.Includes a Gator hard case.A very rare, factory Burgundy Mist matching-headstock CIJ Jazzmaster, with confirmed JM66-80 BMT neck pocket stamp, strong rare-colour provenance, a fresh refret, professional setup and Fender Pure Vintage ’65 pickup upgrade. Only selling because I’m testing the waters, as these very rarely come up.Collection from Cambridge or Nottingham, or postage at buyers expense.
