About this listing

For sale: Evolution EVS-1 – a rare and underrated 1U digital rack synthesizer from the early 1990s, made in the UK. Today, this module has a cult following among lovers of "lo-fi" and gritty digital sounds (famously used by artists like Legowelt). It doesn't offer hi-fi realism, but rather unique, harsh FM basses, weird pads, and an uncompromising retro digital character.

Condition and modifications:

  • Excellent condition: Fully functional, visually in great shape without any major scratches or blemishes.
  • New battery: The internal memory battery has just been replaced, so it holds patches perfectly and you are good to go for years.
  • Power supply: A fully working, correct-spec power adapter is included (not original).

Tech info:

  • Polyphony: 16 voices
  • Multitimbral: 8 parts
  • Synthesis: Multi-algorithmic (combines FM, Phase Distortion, and other unique digital methods)
  • Memory: 100 sounds (80 factory presets, 20 user memory slots)
  • Control: MIDI In/Out/Thru. Please note: The front panel allows for patch selection and basic parameters (Volume, Pan). Deep sound editing requires an external software editor via MIDI SysEx.
  • Year of production: 1990
