While many fans recognize PJ Morton for his work with Maroon 5, the soulful keyboardist's body of work goes well beyond his contributions to the band's monster hit albums. His most recent solo release, Gumbo came out earlier this year and is, as the name implies, a tribute to the stew of sounds and influences that come from his New Orleans background.
When PJ and his combo came by the Reverb studio, he discussed bringing together multiple points of inspiration in a hang-up free, authentically NOLA kind of way. Though PJ's a self-described "soul dude" first and foremost, he loves people singing along to a good chorus and tries to bring that pop sensibility to all of his work, as you can hear in the jam in the video above.
