Exceptional ribbon microphone originally developed by Crowley & Tripp and later released under the Shure KSM series after Shure acquired the company and its Roswellite™ ribbon technology.
The KSM313/NE (“Naked Eye”) is one of the most unique ribbon microphones ever made: a true dual-voice ribbon design, where each side of the microphone offers a different tonal character.
- Front side: warm, thick, smooth and full-bodied — excellent for guitar amps, brass, darker sources and vintage-style tones.
- Rear side: brighter, more open and flattering — ideal for vocals, acoustic instruments and sources requiring more presence.
Unlike traditional fragile ribbon microphones, the KSM313 uses Shure/Crowley & Tripp’s patented Roswellite™ ribbon material instead of conventional aluminium foil. This material has shape memory and extremely high durability, allowing the microphone to withstand up to 146 dB SPL without the typical risks associated with classic ribbon mics.
This makes the KSM313 unusually practical for loud guitar cabinets, drums, brass sections and modern studio work while still delivering the smooth, natural transient response and deep figure-8 character ribbon microphones are loved for.
A modern classic ribbon microphone combining the tone of vintage ribbons with dramatically improved durability and practical usability.
