It has the standard Boss orange enclosure, black rubber footswitch pad, Tone, Level, and Dist controls, check LED, side-mounted input/output jacks, and standard Boss compact pedal format.The DS-1 is a simple and reliable distortion pedal suitable for rock, punk, grunge, hard rock, alternative, lead boost sounds, and classic distortion textures. It can be used into a clean amp for a full distortion sound, or into an already-driven amp to add extra bite, compression, and sustain.The control layout is straightforward: Level controls output volume, Tone adjusts brightness, and Dist controls the amount of distortion.
