What Kind of Delay is Right For Me?
As with any effect, there are a lot of things to consider when you're in the market for a rackmount delay unit. There's the classic question of whether you should choose analog vs. digital delay, plus extra considerations like delay time and whether or not you're looking for a multi-effect processor with a slew of other effects in addition to delay.
All of these considerations come down to personal taste and your personal use case—there's no universally best option. If you're interested in shopping vintage, many of the rack units you'll find from the '80s, like the Yamaha E1010, provide great analog sound at a reasonable price point. If you're looking for a digital unit, you can find feature-packed mainstay options like the TC Electronic 2290 Dynamic Digital Delay, which has been a staple in studios and live sound settings since its debut in1985, or more pared-down options that will be easier on your wallet, like the mighty Alesis MicroVerb 3.
