About this listing
Offered here is an early production Moog Minimoog Model D, serial #5233, from my smoke-free recording studio, where it has lived for roughly the past twenty years. This instrument has been featured extensively throughout my own work, appearing on many albums over the course of my 20 year ownership. Prior to that, it belonged to acclaimed Portland keyboardist Ramsey Embick, who toured internationally with The Pointer Sisters during the 1980s using this Minimoog, and performed on recording sessions for artists including Jo Bisso, Alfonzo, and others. Several touring-era modifications performed during his ownership remain intact and are described below. This is not a museum piece... it is an honest, professionally used early Minimoog with decades of musical history. The front panel remains exceptionally clean and highly legible, all keys play well, and the instrument retains its original character while remaining a fantastic sounding and inspiring synthesizer.A comprehensive demonstration video will be provided to serious buyers showing all functions and the instrument operating.Included Early Production Moog Minimoog Model D Kenton Pro Solo Mk3 CV/Gate Interface Required CV/Gate cables Power cable Overall ConditionOriginal finish throughout.Walnut cabinet shows expected cosmetic wear, small chips, scratches, and edge wear consistent with over fifty years of professional use.Front panel graphics are exceptionally clean.Keys are original, feel good, and all trigger properly.Smoke-free studio ownership for approximately the last twenty years.Functional NotesKeyboard All original keys play properly. Emphasis (Resonance) functions properly. Contour Amount functions properly. Classic Minimoog filter sounds excellent. EnvelopesFilter Contour: Attack works properly. Decay works properly. Sustain functions properly. Loudness Contour: Attack works properly. Decay works properly. Sustain functions properly. Controllers Modulation Mix functions properly. Glide functions (see note **)Service / Calibration NotesLike many vintage Minimoogs, the instrument would benefit from a calibration.Current observations include: Tune control reaches A440 with the Tune knob positioned slightly below "1." **Glide rises normally but takes slightly longer returning downward. A small amount of scratchiness is present only while engaging the A-440 switch, otherwise clean/silent turning and switching elsewhere. Otherwise controls operate cleanly. Period ModificationsThis instrument retains several modifications performed during Ramsey Embick's touring years. These include: Two toggle switches located in the Controllers section. One toggle switch located near the Loudness Contour section. Two unused control knobs. These modifications remain from its professional touring history.Known operation: One controller toggle locks oscillator pitches together, producing an interesting musical effect when changing oscillator ranges. Remaining added switches/controls currently appear inactive. I have intentionally left these modifications untouched as part of the instrument's documented history.CV / GateCV/Gate has been tested and works properly.A Kenton Pro Solo Mk3 and appropriate cables are included, making the instrument easy to integrate with modern MIDI setups.ShippingThe instrument will be professionally packed with great care, double boxes, heavy duty packaging, fully insured, etc.Local pickup is also welcome (Seattle area)Additional photos, sound samples, and a complete function demonstration video are available upon request.
