This is certainly not the first vintage LG2 we've come across at The Fellowship of Acoustics, but it's certainly one that immediately stands out thanks to its exceptionally large neck!

The LG2 was part of the same series as the LG1 and LG3, but this was the only model that continued production during WWII. Due to stock shortages, it was common for Gibson to use mahogany for the top instead of spruce during those years. This is also the case with this 'hogtop' from 1942, which is loved for its scalloped X-braced top and is highly collectible with the Banner logo on the headstock.

Thanks to the full mahogany construction, the sound stands out with that little bit of extra punch. And certainly do not underestimate the power of this guitar! It seems small and compact, but produces a surprisingly loud sound. Strike a few chords and it almost blows you away! With a softer touch, the clarity of the high tones is particularly noticeable.

This Gibson, which is over 80 years old, also looks particularly beautiful thanks to the now matte lacquer with weather and checking and playwear that show the guitar has been played regularly over the years. The playing traces are on the top as well as the back and sides, and not all the lacquer has been preserved on the back of the five-piece neck. There are some repaired cracks on the side of the sound box, and around the heel there are some small gaps between the binding and the wood due to the shrunken binding material; the neck is still firmly attached!

The guitar is also equipped with a new bridge saddle and a new top nut, while a refret has also been performed. This beautiful LG2 from 1942 is a very good sounding guitar that also offers a unique playing experience due to its large neck!
