A heavily gigged example of the legendary Epiphone Sheraton II in Ebony – and the moment you pick her up, you can feel it: she wants to go straight back on stage. The Sheraton is considered the luxury version of Epiphone’s 335/DOT, with beautiful headstock inlays, gold hardware, refined fretboard inlays and bindings that instantly give her an elegant, high-end look.
This one is completely original and comes with a lovely story: the previous owner was a dance-band musician from the Upper Palatinate region. He bought it new in 1999 and played it regularly on stage for many years. The frets clearly showed those countless live hours.
We leveled and polished the frets, removing only as much material as necessary. For two or three tiny dents we didn’t want to take off more – you don’t feel them while playing, and this way there’s still plenty of life left in the frets. Now everything is back in great shape.
Tonally the guitar is surprisingly versatile – from warm jazz tones and powerful blues leads to clear, chimey cleans. The original pickups are absolutely fine and fit the character of the guitar very well. The neck, with its flat D-shape, feels wonderful in the hand: smooth, comfortable and very playable.
Of course, she has patina and playwear – but you can also tell she was well cared for despite all the stage use. The gold hardware shows visible patina, and much of the gold has worn off on the bridge pickup, the “thunder wings” and the stop tailpiece. The top has plenty of playwear, and the back as well.
In short: a true player with real history in the wood.
