With the Belle, Brian Wampler has taken a classic low-gain overdrive circuit and tweaked it to perfection. This circuit has been around in various forms for a long time, but most versions have too much "hi-fi" sound. You don't get the right mix of clarity and bass needed to make that overdrive sing. Brian added more gain features to this circuit and added a bass knob that controls all the harmonics from soft and creamy to firm and crunchy. Just like the gramophone pictured on the case, this pedal exudes classic mechanical beauty, brass-toned clear tones and just the right amount of deep bass. This circuit is a firm favorite in Nashville and Brian Wampler's setup is everything you would expect - quality components, a beautiful cabinet and gorgeous tone. Turning the gain low and the bass control high gives you a wonderful, clean boost tone that rivals any clone circuit. However, when you turn the bass down and the gain all the way up, you suddenly find yourself with a fantastic transparent Overdrive / Medium Distortion sound with all the crunch you need. More than just a standard tone control, the color control is quite unique to this circuit. If you dial right or left, the high and low end are either boosted or cut a bit, but the mid-range frequencies are left well alone. Combine this with the Bass control and you get a very versatile tone shaping palette with Wampler's legendary ease of use. Brian also added a pressure switch on the side that controls the compression and clipping structure in the circuit for added punch.
