This is a simple noise gate
Don't know why you would need one but in case here it is. 
It cuts off the signal once the level falls below the threshold set,you can set it with the upper knob.

(ALL) pedals need a proper power supply,all of my pedals works with classic 9v.
Cheap, unshielded power supply will gets you background noise or pedals to not work at full potential, it's not something that depends on me, and it applies to all pedal, especially analog one, so please use a proper power supply.
