Schaller KV50 1966

A refurbished Schaller KV 50 valve amplifier is for sale.

It has been professionally refurbished, with the exception of the echo section.

The Siebel capacitors have been replaced with equivalent ‘ask Jan first’ = F&T capacitors.

All other electrolytic capacitors, as well as the bias capacitor, have been replaced.

Bridge rectifier, ‘bias diode’,

series resistors and screen grid resistors (Vishay) (original value of 100 ohms retained) have been replaced with new ones.

The valves are matched and the bias current has been set to approx. 37 mV.

New mains lead and new rubber feet.

A Switchcraft jack has been fitted to connect an additional loudspeaker.

The amplifier works as it should, including the tremolo.

All three channels operate via all jack inputs as well as via the Klein Tuchel DIN inputs.

The potentiometers have been cleaned.

The cover is missing from one of the cables leading to the octal socket, but there is a 1:1 adapter that allows the cable to be easily disconnected from the power amplifier.

The echo unit is not working – there is no sound – but you could hear it running when you turned the volume up; the motor runs smoothly and quietly.

The echo unit would need to be adjusted and serviced by an expert in echo units; it is in its original condition, though the lower cover is missing.

The reverb unit has been neatly disconnected from the amplifier.

Both transformers are original and dated June 1966.

Goodman speakers – Schaller used to sell them in its catalogue as part of an upgrade programme back then.

The amp is completely reliable, hum-free and ready for immediate use; it sounds very warm and lovely with the British speakers.

Testing it on site is no problem.
