LEP's (Laboratorio Elettronico Popolare) Multicassa 4ch builds upon its predecessor's innovative approach to rhythm generation by combining four distinct drum voices with five clock dividers. Just like the predecessor this expanded drum module draws inspiration from vintage electronic instruments like the Mixturtrautonium (by Oskar Sala), but now offers even more rhythmic possibilities.

The module features four characterful voices - low for kicks, mid for toms/bongos, high for rimshots/woodblocks, and a new dedicated snare channel. Each voice responds to three straightforward controls: frequency shifts the pitch range, resonance adjusts decay time (and can push into self-oscillation), while distortion adds grit to taste.

The rhythmic engine now employs five clock dividers that can be mixed in various combinations. Each drum voice receives input from adjacent dividers, with crossfaders determining their blend. This mixing affects both timing and velocity, creating dynamic patterns with natural groove. A new swing switch lets you alter the internal groove character, while the updated clock input now syncs to both 2ppqn and 24ppqn standards.

Three trigger inputs expand the module's connectivity - T3 accepts audio, CV, and trigger signals, while T2 and T4 handle triggers exclusively. This new audio input capability through T3 allows external signals to be processed through the Bongo and Legno channels, adding filtering possibilities to the module's arsenal. Three trigger outputs distribute rhythmic patterns to other gear.

Individual outputs for each voice plus a main mix output provide flexible routing options. When using external clock, the tempo knob becomes a master clock divider, offering additional rhythmic manipulation possibilities.

Multicassa 4CH brings it's own quirky take on drum synthesis and rhythmic generation. This thing sounds about as raw as it looks!
