The Valve Special is a small, 5W Class A tube combo amp from the Valve series launched in the mid-2000s. It uses two 12AX7 preamp tubes and one EL84 power tube, with a 10-inch, 8-ohm speaker. It captures the spirit of small vintage amps from the 1950s, with a single-ended circuit, but adds a lot of features for its price: gain, master volume, 3-band EQ, digital reverb, and 16 DSP presets including chorus, flanger, and delay. Its main appeal is its excellent small-tube amp tone at low wattage: a warm clean, then a fairly gradual crunch as you increase the gain or volume, with good response to pedals. The 10-inch speaker gives it more presence and bass than the 8-inch Valve Junior.
