Despite extensive examination, we have not yet been able to conclusively identify either the manufacturer or exact model. This does not happen often, and the study is ongoing.

Where AI, Google image, Manufacturers, Manuals and and experts fail to identify a Mic , the only thing that becomes a plausible fact is = it is rare!

At first glance, the microphone strongly resembles the Grundig GDM 19. However, closer examination reveals substantial differences in its geometry, housing construction, mounting system, and rear design. It should therefore not be presented as a GDM 19 without further evidence.

In the quest for knowledge, I am offering a €50 discount to the first person who can identify this exact microphone with confidence and provide proof in the form of original documentation, catalogue references, or clear photographs showing the identical model.

Regardless of its identity, what ultimately matters most is its sound—and this microphone sounds genuinely excellent.

It is a clear, focused, and articulate vintage dynamic microphone with a cardioid polar pattern and very good speech intelligibility. Its permanently attached cable has been professionally converted to XLR for convenient use with modern equipment.

BUILD & DESIGN

The microphone has a remarkably substantial outer housing made from thick, rigid molded plastic. Although its overall appearance recalls the Grundig GDM 19, its proportions and geometry are distinctly different.

Two separate mounting systems are integrated into the housing:

  • A threaded mount for attachment to a conventional microphone stand or boom
  • Two openings at the rear that accommodate the detachable metal table stand

The table stand can be attached and removed quickly, allowing the microphone to be used either as a compact desktop microphone or on a conventional stand.

The microphone uses a passive dynamic system and requires no phantom power.

SOUND CHARACTERISTICS

This microphone has a clear, focused, and articulate sound. The midrange is present and well defined, giving voices and instruments excellent intelligibility without sounding thin or unpleasantly aggressive.

Its cardioid response helps concentrate the recording on the source in front of the microphone while reducing sound arriving from behind. The overall presentation is direct, balanced, and immediately usable.

It is particularly well suited for:

  • Speech and spoken-word recording
  • Vocals
  • Acoustic instruments
  • Amplifiers
  • Vintage-character recording

Its identity remains a mystery, but its practical quality does not: this is a very capable and distinctive vintage microphone that deserves to be used.
