The VM-C7100 was the compact professional control console at the heart of Roland’s extraordinary VM-7000 V-Mixing System — a modular digital architecture capable of controlling systems of up to 94 channels.

And this was serious technology.

Unlike conventional mixers, Roland separated the control surface from the audio-processing hardware. The VM-C7100 communicates with a VM-7100 or VM-7200 processor via Roland’s VM-LINK, allowing the audio processor to be positioned close to the sound sources while the console remains at the mix position.

With a fully expanded VM-7000 system, Roland offered an astonishing 94 inputs / 104 outputs, multiple internal buses, R-BUS digital connectivity and extensive onboard effects.

This was Roland engineering at its most ambitious.

And while used VM-C7100 consoles occasionally appear, finding one unused and preserved in its original Roland carton decades later is another matter entirely.
