Elektron Octatrack MKII is an eight-track dynamic performance sampler with a professional 64-step sequencer, offering 8 stereo audio tracks and 8 dedicated MIDI tracks, real-time time-stretching and pitch-shifting, 2 insert effects per audio track, and 3 LFOs per track.
The second generation of Octatrack brings major improvements: a sharp 128×64 OLED display with excellent viewing angles, ultra-durable backlit buttons rated for 50 million presses, a touchless crossfader, precise high-resolution encoders, a greater number of dedicated buttons, and balanced inputs and outputs with increased headroom.
Octatrack MKII is a machine designed primarily for live performance, redefining the way sounds are transformed, interacted with, and played. It is a stereo sampler, processor, and live looper with a powerful sequencer and workstation workflow. The system offers a choice of several custom “machines” — Static, Flex, Thru, Neighbor, and Pickup — tailored to different needs for sample recording, manipulation, and effect processing on each of the eight tracks. Static is better for longer samples with more memory, Flex for complex manipulation of smaller components, Thru processes external signals with effects, Neighbor plays back signals from connected sources, and Pickup can record while playing back the current material.
The sound design and modulation possibilities are huge — three LFOs are available for each track, with an LFO designer offering an etch-a-sketch-style workflow plus smoothing and 19 waveforms to choose from. LFOs can be applied not only to internal and external audio modulation, but also to MIDI. The system offers two insert effects per audio track with a huge selection of reverb, filters, and many others.
Available effects include a tone-shaping base-width filter, a distinctive comb filter, two types of equalizer for precise frequency control, compression, lo-fi, flanger, phaser, delay, chorus, spatializer, and more. If more effect slots are needed, a Neighbor machine can be used to double the number.
Octatrack MKII can function as a compact mixing desk and effects hub for an entire setup, using configurable stereo input pairs and equally configurable main and cue output pairs. Connecting external MIDI gear allows the machine to orchestrate the whole setup through eight dedicated tracks, each with MIDI LFOs and CC control pages.
Elektron’s legendary sequencer makes it possible to build ideas with absolute control and limitless depth, both for internal sounds and external hardware. In addition to the eight audio tracks, there are eight MIDI sequencer tracks. The Arranger lets you turn sequences into songs with repeat, mute, loop, and jump commands.
Octatrack MKII comes with nearly 5 GB of loops and one-shots from Origin Sound, Loopmasters, Sample Magic, and Samples from Mars.
