Brooklyn's Death by Audio is a pedal company that truly embodies the DIY ethic. Not only is founder Oliver Ackermann the chief engineer behind noise rock titans A Place to Bury Strangers, but the DBA space in Williamsburg has also served as the go-to underground venue in New York until it changed locations a few months back.
Listening to A Place to Bury Strangers is a crash course in what DBA pedals are all about: copious volume and drive, pulsing waves and warbles with manic squeals echoing through haunted spaceships. For Ackermann, it's about making pedals that help musicians craft their sound, and his own sounds are certainly no exception. Our pals at FreqsTV recently visited the Death By Audio lab to chat about what goes into each design and the philosophy that guides how they craft their pedals.
