A 1966 Hofner 500/2 “Club Bass” has arrived in stock.

It features a dark, original sunburst finish that’s quintessentially vintage.

Although this instrument has been restored, it boasts an exceptional vibe, marked by battle scars such as cracks and scratches in the finish.

This model retains the characteristics of the early production run, prior to the transition to late-’60s specifications.

It features a nitrocellulose lacquer finish, a raised logo, single open-type tuning pegs, a 3-layer nut,

a 2-piece neck, a pearl-covered neck heel, staple-style pickups, a short tailpiece,

and control plates and knobs that appear to be period pieces. The pickguard is missing.

In addition to the distinctive details mentioned above, we have determined this to be a 1966 model based on the “36” pot date, which indicates the year of manufacture.

It is difficult to determine the condition of the frets with certainty, but it is safest to assume they have been replaced.

The serial number sticker, which was likely originally affixed to the back of the headstock, is currently attached to the bridge saddle. Additionally, there is text engraved on the tailpiece mounting plate; this was intentionally carved by a previous owner.

Furthermore, there are markings made with something like a marker at the bridge mounting points on the body top; while the E-string side has been cleaned and is now clear, the markings on the G-string side remain.

This instrument has undergone a neck reset.

It was reset with great care, so you can continue to use it with confidence.

There are no major aesthetic issues, making it a good choice for collectors as well.

Minor changes, such as different screws, are to be expected.

As this is a heavily used instrument, even a visual inspection reveals some slight neck twist and a slightly raised neck,

but there is no particularly noticeable muffling, and the playability aligns with the typical setup of a Hofner bass.

The pickups have been rewound, but there is nothing to complain about regarding the sound.

That classic Hofner sound from back in the day is still very much alive.
