Traynor YBA-1 Tube Rectified Bassmaster 1965

Own a piece of history! Up for sale is a very early Traynor Bassmaster YBA-1 head with. This head is one of the earliest Bassmasters made. It runs two 7027 power tubes (6L6s can be substituted) and has a 5AR4 tube rectifier (very rare). This is basically a Fender Tweed Bassman or Marshall JTM 45 at a fraction of the price.

You may have noticed that the back panel on the head is much thinner than the panels on most Bassmasters; this indicates a very early unit as the (basically unicorn) Traynor Dynabass heads that preceded the Bassmaster also used these thinner panels. The lack of rear badge with name, model number, and serial number, also indicates a very early unit. I have owned a bunch of these amps over the years (I was an avid collector for nearly 20 years) and this one is the best of the best. It is the last one I have, meaning, it is the one I kept.

The head has been serviced and has a cap job and three prong plug. A master volume was tastefully added to the back (no holes were drilled) and it is completely out of the circuit when not in use. The amp is loaded with Svetlana Winged 'C' 6L6s which are themselves sought after and expensive.

All the controls work, although the high expander knob (presence) probably needs replacing as it spins without much resistance (it does work though). The jewel light also went out and needs to be replaced. The bulb can easily be found online. Other than that the amp is working well and sounds gorgeous!

The amp is over 60 years old so I cannot offer any type or warranty. As with all vintage electronics, I do NOT offer returns. If you are not comfortable with this please do not bid.

These heads rarely come up for sale and these “earliest of the early” are even rarer. I am sad to see this go as it will extinguish my once mighty collection of the earliest and rarest Traynor stuff (See last pic). That said, it’s time the amp finds a happy new owner and adds a new chapter to its story.

I have no control of this and will not offer partial refunds or accept returns because you got dinged at the border.
