Garnet Banshee - G12-2 1960s

The Banshee is essentially a Herzog built with its own speaker

Powered by a single 6V6 power tube and 12AX7 pre-amp tube, the amp is good for approximately 5-6 watts. It's an excellent choice for anybody looking for an authentic vintage tone for the studio or for practicing at home. When pushed, the amp breaks up really nicely and with the volume backed off, the clean tone is breathtaking. It takes my modulation and gain pedals extraordinarily well.

The original Marsland speaker was really holding the amp back, so I installed a Celestion C90 Black Shadow speaker which I stripped from a Mesa Boogie Thiele cabinet. It sounds awesome now. I tried a number of speakers before deciding on the Black Shadow, including a vintage EVM12L, a Vintage 30, an old Philips alnico.

Two mods were performed; the installation of a 3 prong power plug, and the installation of a 1/4" speaker input jack ( which now allows for the use of external cabs )

The amp operates quietly when idling and the sound that is produced is very warm and articulate.

All of the jacks and knobs function properly.

I still have the original 12" Marsland alnico if you prefer a more mellow tone which is less suited for gain. The Black Shadow was a signifcant upgrade for me as I was looking for a louder, more versatile speaker. The Marsland might have a slight advantage over the Celestion for low volume clean however. The Black Shadow was repaired by my amp tech after I accidentally made a tiny hole in it. Neither the sound, nor the functionality was affected and there isn't any rub or unwanted noise.
