The PRS DGT Gold Top is one of the most important signature models PRS has ever made. Developed through more than two decades of collaboration between Paul Reed Smith and David Grissom, the DGT takes the McCarty platform and refines it into something that feels deeply familiar yet incredibly dialed in. From the unique DGT neck carve and taller frets to the carefully voiced pickups and independent controls, every detail was obsessively tested with real players in mind. Finished in classic Gold Top over a carved figured maple top and mahogany body, it carries that timeless late ‘50s influence while still feeling unmistakably PRS.
What makes this particular DGT especially cool is that the previous owner, a professional guitarist, had the neck professionally converted from gloss to satin by a highly respected luthier. The result is an incredibly smooth, fast-playing neck that keeps that broken-in feel without ever getting sticky under your hands. Only play non-gloss necks? This one is perfect for you — the tone, craftsmanship, and feel PRS is known for, paired with the slick satin neck many players wish came standard from the factory.
The DGT pickups have a warm vintage voice with exceptional articulation, allowing clean tones to stay open and detailed while gain sounds remain thick, vocal, and dynamic. The dual volume controls give you incredible flexibility for blending pickups and setting up lead and rhythm tones, while the push/pull coil taps add convincing single coil textures without sacrificing fullness. Paired with the PRS Gen III tremolo and Phase III tuners, the DGT strikes a rare balance between vintage character, modern reliability, and pure musicality.
