The Boss NF-1 Noise Gate shares a very similar design to the Boss SG-1 Slow Gear but sells for a fraction of the cost of an original SG-1. For this reason we developed a modification to convert the NF-1 to sound like the SG-1 giving our customers access to a much more affordable version of the SG-1. The Boss SG-1 slowly fades in your guitar to give you volume swells and allows you to simulate bowed instruments by removing the attack of your guitar pick. With our Slow Gear Conversion we take a stock NF-1 and convert the circuitry to be almost identical to the SG-1. Since recording the video below we’ve also changed the modification to extend the maximum swell time. This allows you to have an even longer swell rate than an SG-1 could provide. The pedal will no longer be a noise gate but will provide a classic slow volume effect in a reliable package without the inflated price tag. The SG-1 Slow Gear conversion also includes converting the pedal to run on modern power supplies and not the vintage ACA-120 12V power supply as well as replace the rubber O-ring under the footswitch if needed.

An optional upgrade for our overhaul mod is adding a Bloom Jack. This mod adds a 1/4″ jack to the pedal to accept a momentary foot switch allowing you to re-trigger the slow volume effect manually. The pedal by default will trigger whenever you start playing guitar and fade the volume in then stays at full volume until your guitar playing stops. This Bloom Jack will allow you to mute when your external foot switch is depressed and fade in the volume when released without needing to stop playing. If you’re looking for a normal SG-1 then skip this mod; If you are looking to experiment or use this pedal with keyboards, loopers, or self-oscillation effects then consider this add-on.
