14" X 6 1/2" deep shell. This wood was milled back in the 1700's. I re-purposed it from an antique table, I believe it is a spruce, but not 100% of the species. The hoops are bell bronze cast imported from Guven Bronze in Turkey. The lugs and throw off are cast and machined in my shop. I have been building and restoring drums for decades as a hobby and only have a fb page SAW drums. The shell has steam bent Ash re-rings which are inlaid into the shell which keeps the inside flush and gives the rings two planes of glue surface. This greatly adds to the shell strength. You will see many stave builders simulating re-rings by machining them into the main shell. Although it looks impressive, it actually does nothing for shell is integrity, basically a waste of time doing them that way. My snare beds are cut deep, similar to the Radio King shells of the '40's, this helps to eliminate sympathetic snare buzz. The drum plays beautifully and is a work of art to look at. I had it out for one night to make sure it functions without any surprises.
