The Radial Power-1 isn't just an extension cord. It is a security guard for your tone.
Designed by Radial (the same folks who make those indestructible D.I. boxes), this 1U rackmount power conditioner does two essential things:
- It Protects: Using high-quality Metal Oxide Varistors (MOVs), it absorbs violent power surges and spikes before they can fry your fuses or circuits.
- It Cleans: The electricity in our homes and venues is "dirty" (parasites, radio waves, Wi-Fi noise). The Power-1 features a high-rejection RF interference filter that lowers the background noise floor (hiss/hum), giving you blacker silence and purer audio.
At Garage à Musique, we recommend this as the very first piece of gear to bolt into your rack. It's life insurance for your studio.
Why the Power-1 is superior:
- Radial Build Quality: Rugged steel chassis. Unlike cheap plastic models, this unit is built for the road.
- Peace of Mind Indicators: Front panel LEDs confirm that your wiring is grounded and protection is active.
- Handy USB Port: A front-facing USB port to charge your phone or power a rack LED light without sacrificing a rear outlet.
- Spaced Outlets: On the rear, specific outlets are spaced widely to accommodate bulky power bricks (wall warts).

FAQ- Top Web Questions
Is the Power-1 a voltage regulator?
No. It is a conditioner and protector. It cleans the signal and cuts power in case of extreme surges. It does not stabilize voltage (e.g., turning a dipping 110V back into a constant 120V). For that, you need a much heavier and more expensive Voltage Regulator.
Will this eliminate the "hum" in my guitar amp?
If the hum is caused by "dirty" electricity or radio frequency interference (RFI) in the wall circuit, yes, the Power-1 will help significantly. However, if the noise comes from an internal ground loop in the amp or a bad cable, the Power-1 cannot fix that.
Are the front outlets always on?
Yes, the 3 front outlets are "Always On" (unswitched). This allows you to plug in a device you don't want to turn off with the main rack switch. The 8 rear outlets are controlled by the front ON/OFF switch.
Can I use this for my studio computer?
Absolutely. It is highly recommended to protect your PC or Mac power supply and external hard drives from voltage spikes.
What is the difference between this and the Radial Power-2?
The Power-1 is the standard model. The Power-2 adds a sliding tray with multicolored LED lights to illuminate your rack in the dark. The electrical protection is identical on both models.
