Here we have a Clavinet D6. Made in Germany in 1970s. All original. Played by Herbie Hancock?
The "Superstition" sound is instantly apparent, with the simple rocker switches and 9V battery operation (no mains required.....but there is a 9Vdc external PSu socket). Nothing but the real thing can sound/play like a Clavinet....nothing!!! Find "Could you be loved" by Bob Marley and the Wailers...a great example of clavinet recording, its nicely there in the mix, all the way through the song. View attached video of Dr Mix raving about his D6...he has the rare "stage version", but its the same clavinet, with different trousers, thats all (KKGB also have such a keyboard for sale).......note that KKGBs clavinets do not have bouncy keys, as seen in the video...all KKGB clavinets work PROPERLY, excuse us!
This particular D6 has survived over nearly FIFTY years with great aplomb. Complete with original lid and steel legs, it was sourced from a London hire outfit, and has been totally blitzed "from the ground up". Now fully serviced (costing £650 + parts), repaired, voiced & tuned. ...with several coats of (yew) yacht varnish applied to the wooden panel. Study the photos...... Nice white keys are nigh perfect, LUBRICATED and nicely regulated (which means that they are even as possible)....quite dynamic to play, allowing delicate expression...... Hammer tips, gel & strings are brand new. Damping/muting mechanism works well......and it is in tune (although fine tuning may be required after transit.....easy to do). We have never seen a D6 with the "off" lettering still present.....Top lid is present, to protect the keys in transit, and stash the metal legs. KKGB are throwing in an Akai phaser pedal. This wee device transforms the D6 into a fabby-funky feenonimum!
Dimensions are 120 x 40 x 20 cms. Transit weight is 33Kgs.
We were informed that THIS particular D6 was once hired out to Herbie Hancox, for a UK tour...this cannot be verified, but worth a mention.....phone Herbie and ask him? ..we cannot find his number...
Summary:- Clavinets are velocity-sensitive, to a degree, and also have pressure...you can physically bend most notes (up in pitch, a wee bit) by pushing down hard.....Looks cool <>plays HOT! There are lots of YouTube videos to find. "Superstition" is always the song reference...try "Spanish Moon" by Little Feat (original recorded version, not later live videos)..... Do note that servicing & voicing clavinets is NOT a job for the amateur enthusiast. Typically, a proper restoration will cost £500 (minimum). Re-stringing, tweaking the dampening yarn/gel, and setting the hammer tip strike is best left to an experienced pro, trust me.......never mind sorting out the key regulation.....Clavinets are electro-mechanical.
UK price is £6250. ...with new steel legs. Mainland delivery by van-door-to-door is FREE, as far north as Dundee. Sale is via HMRC VAT margin scheme. No VAT may be reclaimed by registered entities. Private buyers are unaffected.
Export price is £5650. Overseas buyers may be charged local taxes/duties by customs/shippers prior to delivery. Note, this now includes EU countries, as UK has left......Tell us where you are, and speedy send-quote will appear. KKGB ship (nearly) all over the world. We use pro packers, or ship on a pallet; we know whats what.......if we can send a 65Kg Rhodes Stage 73 to South Island, New Zealand, we can certainly ship to you...... There is a 6-month guarantee offered on the D6 (excluding string breakage)
