This is a Gibson L-37 archtop made in Kalamazoo in 1939. Sometimes confused with the lower-priced L-30s of the same period, this one has a flat sunburst back, non-elevated fretboard extension, 14-3/4" body, 24-3/4" scale, 1-3/4" nut, carved spruce top and mahogany back & sides, mahogany neck, rosewood fingerboard & bridge, front and back binding, bone nut, V-shaped neck, Kluson tuners. All original with a replacement tailpiece (I think) and a replacement pick guard (the original bound guard was out-gassing so I made a new one, the original is included). The guitar is in really good shape with a few scratches on the top, and slight but stable seam separations front and back, very little fret wear, low action.

This is a nice, small-body guitar, with a jangly, resonant sound. I bought this from a gentleman who told me his mother played it in rural Pennsylvania country bands in the '50. It's a perfect, small-body guitar for another female player ready to pass on an American tradition. Ships in nice-fitting modern hard case.

My descriptions of age, condition, specifications, materials and provenance are my best assessments of an item, or they come from the manufacturers' original product descriptions. In addition, vintage instruments might show the typical wear and tear from years of being played and gigged. I do my best to identify any significant flaws, repairs or other issues, and I'm happy to answer your questions and send you additional photos. But "what you see is what you get." And, contact me with questions, comments or for more pics. Thanks.
