Nonlinearcircuits 1U Signum, built and tested by hand. Official NLC PCB and panel.

The Signum is a three-state switch — not just on/off, but +1, 0, and -1. The flat spot at the switching point is what makes it a true signum circuit, and it’s what makes this thing interesting: it’s a crude, cheap multiplier originally designed as the nonlinear element inside NLC’s Primal Hyperchaos. Andrew liked it enough on its own to give it a panel.

Feed it CV and it carves your modulation into hard-edged, sign-flipped territory. The bottom input is normalled to the switch jack, so a signal can switch itself — patch one cable and let it fold back on itself. Switching point sits around 1V so it plays nice with gates.

Best suited to CV processing. It’ll pass audio, but at slow rates you’ll get a click — which, depending on your patch, might be exactly what you’re after.

Assembled with quality components powered up and tested on the bench before shipping. Ribbon cable included. Ships from Quebec, Canada.
