Cymbals For Sale on Reverb
When you think of all those clicks, pings, and crashes in a song, you're thinking of cymbals. An ancient instrument that's been refined to a piece of precise design, popular lines like the Zildjian A and Sabian HHX Evolution series are staples of a modern drummer's arsenal.
Whether you're looking to pick out a new ride cymbal, upgrade your current collection, or learn a new sticking technique, you can find plenty of articles as well as the best new and used deals on cymbals right here on Reverb.
Types of Cymbals
Cymbals can be broken into four categories:
1 - Rides tend to run 20" and up and are used primarily for the "ping" from their bow and bell.
2 - Crashes are anywhere from 14" to 24" and produce that sudden flash of decibels.
3 - Hi-hats are a stack of two cymbals to the left of the snare responsible for clicks and grooves.
4 - Effects can be anything from a china for a shot of a trashy, aggressive flavor to a splash for staccato accents.
For every type of cymbal, there are four widely-used terms to describe their tone.
- Dark: Lower in frequency and more apt to blend in with the mix. Often hand-hammered and thought of as possessing a "vintage" sound.
- Bright: Higher in frequency and more likely to cut through the mix. Often machine-made for uniformity and associated with brilliant finishes.
- Dry: Marked by strong note articulation and a short decay.
- Washy: Marked by a long decay and less definition between notes.
