Hello and welcome to The House of Chrome.

You are looking at a rare and unique 1970's / 80's era Astatic CTM88 model based on the Astatic 960 & Rauland Borg 1285 model dynamic cardioid microphone that comes with the mic clip and longer cable in which to operate as well as the original (hard to find) box in which to store the contents.

This is the only example of an Astatic CTM88 that I have to offer and it's quite beautiful. This CTM88 is an all metal design with a stock flat black paint scheme to reduce light glare. I have to admit that it's quite aggressive looking compared to most modern stick mics that you see today. This CTM88 a lot of character and it sounds great as well.

You'll see in pic # 2 the Rauland Borg model and it's characteristics. This mic was obviously a collaboration between Astatic and Rauland Borg. The two mics are completely identical and they sound exactly the same.

I should also not that this mic is set at low impedance. It's set at 250 OHMS with some decent bass. The sound is very smooth and the signal is very strong. Works excellent with zero issues and has excellent uni-directional characteristics. This CTM88 and the Rauland Borg model were a collaboration between the two companies. The only difference between the mics were the badges of the company that they came with.

Astatic made a variety of stick mics during the 1960's through the 1980's but seemed to have given up on those at some point. Several I have heard are very good quality but they seemed to just have been drowned out by the competition mostly being that of Shure & electro Voice.

The CTM88 is certainly a very well made quality mic. It's light weight and it's 7 inches long X 1 1/2 inches wide at the grill. The on / off switch works perfectly and as you can see there is just about no wear on this mic. No dents, fractures or tarnish. Just a few tiny scratches. The front grill is perfect. No odors and the inner pop filter screen is perfect as well. I'd rate it a conservative 9 + on a scale of 1 - 10.

The mic has had it's XLR pins cleaned ensuring a perfect signal once a cable is attached though no cable is provided. The Astatic label is perfect and this in an American made microphone.

The mic comes with a mic clip that fits the mic perfectly providing a wide degree of tilt up and down. the tension is adjustable via side screw and this clip will screw onto any stand you have.

The longer 20 foot cable is also included. It's appx 20 feet long. Soft, pliable and has the male XLR end connector for use with most audio equipment.

The original box does show some typical wear but it works great and good for resale value.

If you want to try something different that very few musicians or broadcasters have then the CTM88 will get the job done and you'll absolutely love it.
