Pioneer SX-1080 AM/FM Stereo Receiver — Comprehensively Serviced, All Functions Confirmed

The Pioneer SX-1080 is one of the most celebrated receivers of the late 1970s — a 120 watt per channel powerhouse with a direct coupled DC amplifier, toroidal transformer, and the kind of engineering that defined the peak of Japanese hi-fi. Introduced in 1978 at an MSRP of $700, it remains highly sought after by collectors and serious listeners alike.

This example has undergone a comprehensive professional service. The power supply, amplifier section, and protection circuit have all been recapped and rebuilt with quality replacement components, and several panel lights have been upgraded to LEDs for reduced heat and extended longevity. The case has been polished. All functions have been tested and confirmed operational, and all controls operate reliably and without noise.

Service performed includes:
Power supply recap: rectifier diodes, transistors, electrolytic capacitors throughout. Protection circuit rebuild: thermal fuse, transistors, diodes, and capacitors replaced. Power amplifier section recap: rectifier diodes, transistors, and filter capacitors replaced. Three panel lamps upgraded to LED. Case polished.

Key Features
Direct coupled DC power amplifier. Two large analog VU power meters, one per channel. Current mirror loaded class-A SEPP phono equalizer with one-stage differential amplifier. Turnover tone controls with selectable Bass and Treble frequencies. 6dB/octave high and low filters. Two phono inputs, two tape loops, aux input, microphone input. Pre-amp out/main-amp in for external processing. Two speaker outputs.

Specifications
Power output: 120 watts per channel into 8Ω, both channels driven. Frequency response: 5Hz to 80kHz. Total harmonic distortion: less than 0.05%. Intermodulation distortion: less than 0.05%. FM sensitivity: 1.7µV. FM capture ratio: 1.0dB. Damping factor: 30. Input sensitivity: 7.5mV (mic), 2.5mV (MM phono), 150mV (line). Signal to noise ratio: 76dB (MM), 90dB (line). Output: 150mV (line), 1V (pre out). Semiconductors: 5 FET, 8 IC, 36 transistors, 42 diodes. Dimensions: 526 x 176 x 440mm. Weight: 21.3kg (47 lbs).

Condition
The faceplate and controls present very well. The walnut side panels show light surface wear consistent with age, fully documented in the photos. The veneer at one lower edge shows minor lifting, clearly visible in the close-up photo provided.
