The Kerope series is Zildjian's most serious attempt to recreate the sound and feel of their vintage K cymbals from the 1950s and 60s — the ones that defined jazz drumming and that players have been hunting down at inflated prices for decades. Named for Kerope Zildjian, who presided over one of the most celebrated periods in the company's nearly 400-year history, each Kerope is handcrafted by Zildjian's most experienced cymbal smiths using a 14-step process that draws on traditional Turkish methods. A proprietary patina finish gives them an already played-in look and feel straight out of the box, and the B20 cast bronze alloy — copper, tin, and traces of silver — produces the warm, dark, complex tone that cast cymbals are known for delivering in a way sheet bronze simply cannot replicate.
At 14 inches these hats have a velvety, controlled closed sound with a thick presence and a broad, warm slosh when opened. The top cymbal at 864 grams is on the lighter end of the Kerope hi-hat range, which contributes to the soft, responsive feel and dark character. The bottom at 1402 grams provides a firm foundation and a tight, defined chick. It is a pairing that rewards players who want nuance and dynamic sensitivity — these hats whisper when you ask them to and open up into something full and musical when you push them.
Condition is good. Both cymbals have some edge dings consistent with regular use — no cracks, no keyholing. Please refer to the photos for a close look at the edge condition on both cymbals.
