Awesome Sansui 9090DB Receiver

This unit is insane. Loud and clear. Ready to rock.

Unit has been deep cleaned, all pots cleaned and lubed. Any suspect caps changed out with hi-end replacements and checked to spec.

The wood top has some scratches. Other than that, it is ready to go.

The Sansui 9090DB (manufactured 1976–1979) is a legendary 125-watt-per-channel "monster" stereo receiver from the 1970s golden age of hi-fi. Celebrated for its robust build, warm "Sansui sound," and iconic blue-lit analog meters, it remains highly sought after by vintage audio collectors.

  • Power Output: 125 Watts RMS per channel into 8 ohms (often tests higher on the bench).
  • Total Harmonic Distortion (THD): Less than 0.1%.
  • Frequency Response: 10Hz to 30kHz.
  • Tuning Range: FM and MW.
  • Dimensions & Weight: Approximately 21" x 7" x 16" and weighs over 48 lbs.

Core Features

  • Dolby Noise Reduction: Features built-in Dolby circuitry (hence the "DB" in the name) originally intended for Dolby FM broadcasts and tape decks.
  • Tone Controls: Defeatable Bass, Midrange, and Treble controls to fine-tune your listening experience.
  • Multiple Inputs: Includes inputs for Phono (Moving Magnet), two Auxiliary devices, and two Tape loops.
  • Speaker Switching: Capability to connect and switch between up to three separate pairs of speakers (A, B, C).
  • Comprehensive Metering: Equipped with direct readout power meters, plus dedicated signal and tuning meters.

Ownership & Restoration Notes Because of its age, the 9090DB requires careful maintenance. Many surviving units suffer from issues related to old electrolytic capacitors, failing fusible resistors, or dirty switches. Audiophiles and collectors often seek out units that have been "recapped" and serviced by specialized technicians to ensure reliable, clean audio output. Today, these receivers command premium prices on the resale market ranging from  to upwards of  depending on condition and restoration level.
