How anyone could have resisted playing these Custom Shop Fat 50s pickups is beyond us. In combination with what seems to be an accidental recreation of the historic faded Sunburst finish, this thing radiates a killer fifties vibe the second you plug in. Many pro players and reviewers have said that the Custom Shop’s Fat 50s are the best pickups Fender have ever made...
Factory calibrated, with staggered Alnico V magnets, pole pieces with rounded edges, Formvar wire, fibre bobbins, aged covers, and the middle pickup with reverse wound/reverse polarity for hum-cancelling in positions 2 and 4, these things absolutely sing. Fabulous bottom end, with no harsh midrange, and the bell-like upper registry Strat tone that people can spend a lifetime – and many thousands of dollars – chasing.
