TEAC X-2000R Auto-Reverse Reel-to-Reel Tape Deck – Professionally Serviced – Superb Condition
Offered here is an exceptionally clean example of the TEAC X-2000R, one of TEAC's most sophisticated and desirable consumer open-reel tape machines. This is the top auto-reverse model of the X series, featuring six heads, three motors, closed-loop dual-capstan tape transport, full tension servo control, dbx noise reduction, and full record and playback capability in both directions.
Condition & Recent Professional Service
This particular X-2000R is in superb cosmetic and operating condition and has seen remarkably little visible wear for a machine of its age. The brushed black front panel, controls, reel tables, meter assembly, transport components and cabinet all present beautifully, as shown in the detailed photographs.
The machine's most recent professional service was completed July 4, 2025 by Rainbow Electronics in California. Service included:
- Replacement of the capstan belt
- Cleaning and lubrication of moving mechanical components
- Cleaning of controls
- Head cleaning and demagnetization
- Complete operational testing
All functions have been tested and are operating properly. The transport is smooth and responsive, and the machine is expected to provide dependable long-term service.
The only significant cosmetic flaw is a hairline crack in the plastic housing at the upper left corner, shown clearly in our close-up photograph. Because of its location and extremely narrow width, the crack is difficult to see under most normal viewing and lighting conditions. It is cosmetic only and has no effect whatsoever on operation or performance.
Please examine all photographs closely. They form an important part of the description and demonstrate the unusually well-preserved condition of this example.
About the TEAC X-2000R
Introduced during the final generation of TEAC's high-end open-reel machines, the X-2000R represents the culmination of decades of TEAC reel-to-reel development.
Unlike the three-head X-2000, the X-2000R uses six heads, providing erase, record and playback heads for both forward and reverse directions. It can therefore record and reproduce stereo tapes bidirectionally without turning the reels over. TEAC's documentation specifies a ¼-track, two-channel stereo system and six-head configuration.
The transport employs a closed-loop dual-capstan drive with an FG-servo DC capstan motor and two slotless DC reel motors. TEAC's full tension servo system continually controls reel torque to maintain stable tape tension, contributing to the exceptionally smooth tape handling for which these machines are known.
Additional features include built-in dbx noise reduction, pitch control, auto reverse, programmable/search functions, block repeat, electronic tape counter, timer operation, EE tape capability, microphone and line inputs, headphone monitoring, and remote-control capability.

Packing, Shipping & Local Pickup
We have extensive experience packing and shipping large, heavy and valuable vintage audio equipment. This TEAC will be carefully and substantially packed for safe transport, with particular attention paid to protecting the controls, reel tables, cabinet and transport mechanism.
The shipment will be fully insured for its purchase value and packed with the expectation that a nearly 50-pound precision tape machine may encounter the realities of modern carrier handling along the way.
Worldwide shipping is available. International buyers are welcome; please contact us if you would like a shipping quotation or have questions concerning delivery to your country.
Local pickup is also very welcome, and we're happy to arrange a mutually convenient time for collection.
As with all vintage electronics, please review the photographs, video and description carefully. This is a professionally serviced, fully tested vintage machine in unusually fine condition, but it remains a decades-old piece of precision electronic and mechanical equipment.
