The 1970s Ibanez Artist 5-String Banjo is a highly regarded vintage instrument manufactured in Japan during the famed "lawsuit era". These banjos were built in direct competition with Gibson Mastertone models. Because Gibson's production quality declined during the 1970s under Norlin ownership, Japanese manufacturers like Ibanez stepped in to create highly accurate, often superior "Masterclones"
