Solid Live Edge Koa Pineapple Concert Ukulele (SCJ - Jazz Hat # 145)

WOW ... A live edge Koa Pineapple Ukulele ... not something you see every day. Now you can have a one-of-a-kind concert size ukulele with concert scale length(just shy of 15"inch) made from solid reclaimed Hawaiian Koa and a live edge sound hole to boot. This little gem features rosewood trim in the bindings, bridge and fret board. The fret board is inlayed with a Koa design and has fret markers installed. This fret board has a "zero edge" meaning the frets do not show on the side of the fret board. A side sound port is included to give you a little extra sound and so you can better hear the great sounds you are making. The head stock has a Koa veneer that offers a great visual grain pattern.

Strung with Worth Brown Low-G Fluorocarbon strings for great tone, this ukulele produces nice projection and has excellent sustain.

To better protect your new ukulele and help keep it looking great for years this instrument is finished in a gloss polyurethane finish which is very hard. It will make a wonderful addition to you music making collection.

Special "no surprises' note: This ukulele has a 'through the body" string connection at the bridge. Through the body offers several advantages to the more common "tied bridge". It is more modern looking, it is stronger against the high tension of the strings and it produces better sound transfer to the top. However, it is just a tad more difficult to change the strings until you are used to it.

I use a straightened out paper clip with a small hook at the end to 'snag' the strings after I insert them through the top. Then pull the end of the string through the top sound hole. After tying a small bead to the string I pull the string through the bridge until the bead is under the bridge. While this feels a bit strange the first time you do it, it really is not difficult. You can find several Youtube videos on replacing through the bridge strings to give you a better idea of what is involved with changing the strings.
